About this ingredient
Tocopheryl acetate is considerably more stable than free tocopherol because the acetate ester protects the reactive hydroxyl group from oxidation. It is added to the oil phase and is standard in emulsions, oils and anhydrous systems. Note that it functions as a skin-conditioning agent rather than as an in-product antioxidant — for protecting the formulation itself, free tocopherol or a synthetic antioxidant is the better choice.
Benefits
- Far more oxidation-stable than free tocopherol
- Skin conditioning and emollient in oil-phase systems
- Compatible with most cosmetic oils and esters
- Available in cosmetic, pharma and food grades from one source
Applications
- Creams, lotions and body butters
- Hair oils and serums
- Lip balms and anhydrous sticks
- Sun care and after-sun formulations
- Nutraceutical and pharmaceutical preparations
Documentation
- Technical Data Sheet (TDS)Request
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS)Request
- Certificate of Analysis (COA)Download PDF
The COA is generated from our current product data and reports conformance against the standard specification — a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis carrying the measured values, batch number and dates is issued with each consignment. TDS and SDS are shared on request. More on how we document.
About Vitamin E Acetate
Frequently asked
Not covered here? Send the question with your enquiry and we will answer it directly.
01 What is the CAS number of Vitamin E Acetate?
The CAS number for synthetic DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate is 7695-91-2. The INCI name is Tocopheryl Acetate. The natural d-alpha form carries a different CAS number, so confirm which grade you need.
02 Is Vitamin E Acetate an antioxidant for my formulation?
Not effectively. The acetate ester is stable precisely because the reactive group is blocked, which also means it does not protect the product from oxidation. Use free tocopherol or a dedicated antioxidant for formulation stability, and tocopheryl acetate for skin-conditioning claims.
03 What use level is typical in creams?
Most leave-on emulsions use 0.5-1.0% in the oil phase. Higher levels are used in specialised oils and treatment products.
