About this ingredient

CCTG is one of the most widely used emollients in modern cosmetics. Because it is fully saturated it does not go rancid the way plant oils do, giving formulations a long, predictable shelf life. It spreads light and dry rather than greasy, and is an effective carrier for oil-soluble actives, pigments and fragrance.

Benefits

  • Light, non-greasy skin feel with fast spread
  • Oxidation stable — will not go rancid like plant oils
  • Excellent solvent for oil-soluble actives and pigments
  • Compatible with almost every cosmetic oil phase

Applications

  • Creams, lotions and light facial serums
  • Hair oils and leave-in treatments
  • Colour cosmetics as a pigment carrier
  • Cleansing oils and makeup removers
  • Carrier for oil-soluble actives and vitamins

Documentation

The COA is generated from our current product data and reports conformance against the standard specification — a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis carrying the measured values, batch number and dates is issued with each consignment. TDS and SDS are shared on request. More on how we document.

About Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (CCTG)

Frequently asked

Not covered here? Send the question with your enquiry and we will answer it directly.

01 Is CCTG the same as MCT oil or fractionated coconut oil?

Broadly yes. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is produced by fractionating coconut or palm kernel oil and re-esterifying the medium-chain fatty acids with glycerin. MCT oil and fractionated coconut oil are common trade names for the same material.

02 What is the CAS number for Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride?

The CAS number is 65381-09-1 and the INCI name is Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. It is also traded as CCTG and GTCC.

03 What use level is typical?

It ranges widely by format — around 1-5% in light serums, 5-15% in emulsions, and up to 30% or more in cleansing oils and anhydrous products.
